Keep your eyes (and ears!) out for many species of warblers in the WMA’s riparian areas and bottomland forest, including: Prothonotary Warbler, Louisiana Waterthrush, Kentucky Warbler, Swainson’s Warbler, Ovenbird, Hooded Warbler, Yellow-throated Warbler, Acadian Flycatcher, and Black-and-white Warbler.

In the pine-hardwood forests and their open understories, watch and listen for: the drum of the Pileated Woodpecker and Northern Flicker, the “here-kitty-kitty” call of the Bachman’s Sparrow, the buzzy trill of the Prairie Warbler, and the “bob-WHITE” whistle of the Northern Bobwhite quail. In summer, keep eyes to the skies to watch the dramatic and graceful soaring of the Swallow-tailed Kites.
